What is free to play?

All of Nexon’s games are free to play. Players can download, install, and play any game, completely free of charge. You will need a Nexon Passport to login to a game, but that is free too!

If all your games are free, then how do you make money?

Nexon makes money by selling items in its games such as a new hairstyle for your character, a cool pet, or a different finish on a weapon. However, the game can still be fully enjoyed without spending any money. In fact, most players do not purchase anything at all. Our philosophy is that players will buy items if they are having fun.

Aren’t free games free for a reason? They suck!

NX Types Expand
What is NX?
NX is virtual currency used throughout all games serviced by Nexon America Inc. NX can be spent on in-game services such as the Cash Shop in MapleStory to buy new items, accessories, and add new features. There are two types of NX depending on how you charge it.
 
 
NX Prepaid

Charged via Nexon Game Cards and PayByCash, has no limitations on in-game item purchases, other than game level restrictions.
 
 
NX Credit

Charged via PayPal, is restricted from purchasing certain items in Nexon games.

**NX has no real world value and can only be used to purchase services provided directly by Nexon America Inc. Any act of NX trading/selling and/or unauthorized/fraudulent charging is in direct violation of the Terms of Use and all violators will be subject to immediate account termination. NX is non-refundable and expires within one year of the purchase date. For more information please refer to the FAQs in the Support Section.

NX Types Expand

In order to fight fraud within our games, please note that gifting is not allowed with NX Credit. Below you will find specific restrictions in each of our games.
Combat Arms
Supply Cases, Black HiSec Keys, and Mercenaries cannot be purchased with NX Credit.
 
 
MapleStory

Character Name Change, Character Transfer, and Cash Shop Surprise cannot be purchased with NX Credit, nor can NX Credit be used in the Maple Trade System (MTS).

Gachapon and Remote Gachapon cannot be purchased with NX Credit until level 30.
 
 
Mabinogi

The following Gachapon cannot be purchased with NX Credit until level 30.

  • Soldier Gachapon
  • Fashion Gachapon
  • Explorer Gachapon
  • Production Gachapon
  • Fixed Dye Gachapon
  • Season Gachapon (i.e. Magician Gachapon)
 
 
Dungeon Fighter Online

Players using NX Credit are restricted from purchasing Avatar Tokens for characters under Level 30. There is no restriction for players using NX Prepaid.
  Nexon Game Cards
Nexon Game Cards are prepaid cards carrying specific amounts of NX. The use of Nexon Game Cards does not require any online transactions to charge your account. Nexon Game Cards can be purchased at many stores in the United States and Canada.

Please keep in mind that NX cannot buy mesos, the MapleStory in game currency.  NX can only be used to buy Cash Shop items in the game. If you are having trouble charging your account, please check out our Billing FAQ.    
  PayByCash
PayByCash allows online transactions and payments without the use of a credit card. It is used by large and small companies alike and is a proven and secure method of online payment.
 
  PayPal
PayPal accepts all major credit cards and is the leading provider of secure online purchase transactions.  PayPal is a quick, SAFE, and SIMPLE method of charging NX to your account. NX charged with PayPal is also called NX Credit.
